The South Conejos Fire Protection District was established by decree of the Conejos District Court on May 17, 1965. The five original board members were G.A. Gonnell, Fidel Garcia, Jr., Lionel L. Vigil, Nemecio Lucero and Adrian Rivera. The District Boundary, as illustrated on this page, has remained unchanged since the District was established.
Currently, The South Conejos Fire Protection District is still governed by a five member board who are elected on odd numbered years. The governing board oversee the fire chief, one administrative staff person and several volunteer firefighters. The annual operating budget for the district is approximately $101,000.
